Da Roberto, South End Green

Visited: Thursday 13th December 2007

A busy traditional Italian caff with outdoor loos

Appearance: No special features, but very traditional with tightly packed tables, lino floor, huge separate queue at sandwich counter, general feel of the 1970s. To get to the toilets you go through a door and find yourself in a yard – the loos are in a shack on the other side.

Food: Granary bap toasted with mozzarella, sun dried tomato and aubergine, plus cup of earl grey. Shame no mugs, toasty was lovely. The omelettes looked particularly nice and accompanied by the tradional fried-from-frozen string chips.

One gripe: this is one of those caffs that are filled with staff but most of them are busy behind the sandwich counter. Service at table for  lunch is not a priority.
