Speedy’s, North Gower Street

Visited: Saturday 16th June 2007, last visited 10th September 2011

Friendly and welcoming with a high standards of food, open on Saturdays.

Interior: Small and cosy with sandwich counter. Like many caffs the only source of light is an awning-covered front window, but it manages not to feel too stuffy despite that.

Food: I had fried egg, bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms with 2 slices granary toast. The toast was soggy (thanks partly to a very generous topping of butter) and the tomatoes tinned but in fact this is one of the better exponents of this particular combination. The tomatoes weren’t hot and watery, as tinned ones can be, and the egg, bacon and mushroom were cooked to perfection. Earl grey tea came in a mug.
